It made the pro-surveillance argument into a *pro-progress* one: \u201cSociety has moved on. Our data can do more good in big, aggregated piles than it can in atomized fragments on your device and mine. The private data we exhaust when we move through the digital world is a precious resource, not pollution.\u201d<\/p>\n<div>\n<br \/>It\u2019s a powerful argument. When companies that promise to monetize your surveillance beat companies that promise to protect your privacy, when people can\u2019t even be bothered to tick the box to block tracking cookies, let alone install full-disk encryption and GPG to protect their email, the pro-surveillance camp can always argue that they\u2019re doing something that no one minds very much.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Like climate change, the privacy catastrophes of the next two decades are already inevitable. Quando as empresas que prometem rentabilizar a sua vigil\u00e2ncia batem as empresas que prometem proteger a sua privacidade, quando as pessoas nem sequer se d\u00e3o ao trabalho de assinalar a caixa para bloquear os cookies de rastreio, quanto mais instalar a encripta\u00e7\u00e3o total do disco e o GPG para proteger o seu correio eletr\u00f3nico, o campo pr\u00f3-vigil\u00e2ncia pode sempre argumentar que est\u00e1 a fazer algo que ningu\u00e9m se importa muito.\"<\/p>\n<p>Tal como as altera\u00e7\u00f5es clim\u00e1ticas, as cat\u00e1strofes da privacidade das pr\u00f3ximas duas d\u00e9cadas s\u00e3o j\u00e1 inevit\u00e1veis.
