I recently tuned into Elon's and Trump's Twitter spaces meeting (listen here… if you must) and it was a horror-show. Bill McKibben and The Guardian came up with the best review summary “The dumbest climate conversation of all time”. (I truly hate the crystal ball thing but ok… it's Grok's fun mode) Here's what he's been chirping about AI, with a dash of humor and an outside perspective on humanity: **Gerd's Take on AI:** 1. **The Human Element:** Gerd often emphasizes the importance of not losing our humanity to technology. He's like the tech world's version of a life coach, reminding us that while AI can do many things, it's not about to start a book club or appreciate a sunset's beauty. – **Quote:** “Embrace technology but don’t become it.” This is his credo, suggesting we should use AI as a tool, not let it define us. (This is very strange as sometimes I describe my work as providing ‘future therapy')

Open video to the government of Lanzarote and the Canary Islands – Design your preferred Future!
Some of you may know that we spend quite a bit of time in #lanzarote, The Canary Islands and that I have a live-streaming studio in Las Breñas. Many of my recent films, videos, and shows were filmed there, including the 2021 film www.thegoodfuturefilm.com. I like Lanzarote, and recently, I started to look at how my work as a futurist might be helpful there – hence this ‘open letter' i.e., open video on the future of Lanzarote, addressed to the local government officials, business leaders and politicians whose task it is to ensure that the island becomes ‘Future Fit'. O futuro da educação e a mentalidade do futuro: Os próximos 10 anos. Palestra na UNECE, Chipre
In this keynote at UNECE in Cyprus (June 2024): The Future of Education: Technology AI, Sustainability, and the Role of Humanity, I explore the transformative impact of Artificial Intelligence and the Sustainability Revolution on our future. I discuss the concept of AI as a second brain and the implications of this technology surpassing human capabilities (as far as ‘processing power' is concerned). I argue for the necessity of ethical considerations in AI development and emphasize the shift from profit-based economics to more planet-centric ones.

Neste evento especial transmitido em direto, apresentei os meus argumentos segundo os quais, embora a IA (Assistência Inteligente) e algumas formas de IA restrita possam ser bastante benéficas para a humanidade, a ideia de construir AGIs, ou seja, "entidades digitais geralmente inteligentes" (tal como foi apresentada por Sam Altman / #openai e outros) representa um risco existencial que, na minha opinião, não deve ser assumido ou autogerido por empresas privadas, corporações multinacionais ou empresas em fase de arranque financiadas por capital de risco.
