‘The dumbest climate conversation of all time’: Musk-Trump Twitter conversation highlights
I recently tuned into Elon's and Trump's Twitter spaces meeting (listen here… if you must) and it was a horror-show. Bill McKibben and The Guardian came up with the best review summary “The dumbest climate conversation of all time”. Here are the snippets I ‘liked' the most: “Donald Trump and Elon Musk both made discursive, often fact-free assertions about global heating, including that rising sea levels would create “more oceanfront property” and that there was no urgent need to cut carbon emissions…” Trump and Musk’s discussion on the climate crisis, therefore,

What X's Grok says about my work on AI, being and Public Thinker
“Ah, Gerd Leonhard, the man who's been gazing into the crystal ball of technology with a mix of awe and caution. (I truly hate the crystal ball thing but ok… it's Grok's fun mode) Here's what he's been chirping about AI, with a dash of humor and an outside perspective on humanity: **Gerd's Take on AI:** 1. **The Human Element:** Gerd often emphasizes the importance of not losing our humanity to technology. He's like the tech world's version of a life coach, reminding us that while AI can do many things, it's not about to start a book club or appreciate a sunset's beauty. – **Quote:** “Embrace technology but don’t become it.” This is his credo, suggesting we should use AI as a tool, not let it define us. (This is very strange as sometimes I describe my work as providing ‘future therapy')

Open video to the government of Lanzarote and the Canary Islands – Design your preferred Future!
Some of you may know that we spend quite a bit of time in #lanzarote, The Canary Islands and that I have a live-streaming studio in Las Breñas. Many of my recent films, videos, and shows were filmed there, including the 2021 film www.thegoodfuturefilm.com. I like Lanzarote, and recently, I started to look at how my work as a futurist might be helpful there – hence this ‘open letter' i.e., open video on the future of Lanzarote, addressed to the local government officials, business leaders and politicians whose task it is to ensure that the island becomes ‘Future Fit'. In this keynote at UNECE in Cyprus (June 2024): The Future of Education: Technology AI, Sustainability, and the Role of Humanity, I explore the transformative impact of Artificial Intelligence and the Sustainability Revolution on our future. I discuss the concept of AI as a second brain and the implications of this technology surpassing human capabilities (as far as ‘processing power' is concerned). I argue for the necessity of ethical considerations in AI development and emphasize the shift from profit-based economics to more planet-centric ones.

En este evento especial retransmitido en directo expuse mis argumentos de que, si bien la AI (Asistencia Inteligente) y algunas formas de IA restringida pueden ser muy beneficiosas para la humanidad, la idea de construir AGIs, es decir, "entidades digitales generalmente inteligentes" (tal y como exponen Sam Altman / #openai y otros) representa un riesgo existencial que, en mi opinión, no debería ser asumido o autogestionado por empresas privadas, corporaciones multinacionales o startups financiadas con capital riesgo.
