‘The dumbest climate conversation of all time’: Musk-Trump Twitter conversation highlights
I recently tuned into Elon's and Trump's Twitter spaces meeting (listen here… if you must) and it was a horror-show. Bill McKibben and The Guardian came up with the best review summary “The dumbest climate conversation of all time”. “Ah, Gerd Leonhard, the man who's been gazing into the crystal ball of technology with a mix of awe and caution. (I truly hate the crystal ball thing but ok… it's Grok's fun mode) Here's what he's been chirping about AI, with a dash of humor and an outside perspective on humanity: **Gerd's Take on AI:** 1. **The Human Element:** Gerd often emphasizes the importance of not losing our humanity to technology. He's like the tech world's version of a life coach, reminding us that while AI can do many things, it's not about to start a book club or appreciate a sunset's beauty. – **Quote:** “Embrace technology but don’t become it.” This is his credo, suggesting we should use AI as a tool, not let it define us. (This is very strange as sometimes I describe my work as providing ‘future therapy')

Open video to the government of Lanzarote and the Canary Islands – Design your preferred Future!
Some of you may know that we spend quite a bit of time in #lanzarote, The Canary Islands and that I have a live-streaming studio in Las Breñas. Many of my recent films, videos, and shows were filmed there, including the 2021 film www.thegoodfuturefilm.com. In this keynote at UNECE in Cyprus (June 2024): The Future of Education: Technology AI, Sustainability, and the Role of Humanity, I explore the transformative impact of Artificial Intelligence and the Sustainability Revolution on our future. I discuss the concept of AI as a second brain and the implications of this technology surpassing human capabilities (as far as ‘processing power' is concerned). I argue for the necessity of ethical considerations in AI development and emphasize the shift from profit-based economics to more planet-centric ones.

Lors de cet événement spécial retransmis en direct, j'ai exposé mes arguments selon lesquels, bien que l'IA (assistance intelligente) et certaines formes d'IA étroite puissent être très bénéfiques pour l'humanité, l'idée de construire des AGI, c'est-à-dire des "entités numériques généralement intelligentes" (telles que définies par Sam Altman / #openai et d'autres), représente un risque existentiel qui, à mon avis, ne devrait pas être entrepris ou autogéré par des entreprises privées, des sociétés multinationales ou des startups financées par du capital-risque.
